Inaugural Central South University New Energy Technology Conference Opens in Changsha

Changsha, October 21st (Hunan Daily) – More than a thousand academicians and experts in the field of new energy, over a hundred leading new energy enterprises, more than sixty financial investment institutions, and over thirty industrial parks gathered at the Grand King Mountain Langham Hotel in Changsha this morning for the inaugural Central South University New Energy Technology Conference. This event stands as a crucial initiative in Changsha’s endeavor to establish itself as a global R&D hub. Hosted by Central South University, it is jointly organized by the Changsha Municipal People’s Government and the Management Committee of the Hunan Xiangjiang New Area.

Currently, there is a continuous escalation in efforts towards innovative new energy technologies with a focus on cleanliness, efficiency, and sustainability, triggering a global energy transformation. It is reported that in Hunan Province, the output value in three sectors – new energy vehicles, new types of energy and power equipment, and advanced energy storage materials and power batteries – has all exceeded one hundred billion RMB. Leading new energy enterprises such as BYD and CRRC Electric have established their presence in Hunan, gradually forming distinctive regional industrial clusters with significant national influence.

During the conference, representatives from relevant areas including the Xiangjiang New Area of Changsha, Xiangtan City, Xiangyin County, Chenzhou City, and the Chenglingji New Port Area of Yueyang City introduced the development of their respective energy technology industries.

A ceremony unveiling the Changsha New Energy Innovation Research Institute also took place at the venue. As a newly established research institution jointly built by the Changsha Municipal People’s Government, the Management Committee of the Hunan Xiangjiang New Area, and Central South University, the institute is poised to support Changsha in becoming a hub for talent cultivation, key technological innovation, technology transfer and transformation, as well as the incubation of technology-oriented enterprises. The conference witnessed the signing of agreements, with 18 projects in cooperation being sealed through three rounds of agreements between the university, local enterprises, and financial institutions.

This two-day conference features five major thematic reports, forums on innovative integration and development of the new energy industry, panel discussions, a New Energy Night, as well as thematic forums and visits to parks and enterprises. It provides a collaborative platform and long-term mechanism for the national new energy industry to explore new paths in technological innovation and new trends in industrial development, and to establish a mechanism for universities to support industrial development through disciplinary integration.

It is worth noting that, in the pursuit of new energy industry development, Central South University has strengthened the efficient collaboration of traditional disciplines with multidisciplinary approaches, promoted the high-level integration and cross-fertilization of open science and technology platforms and think tanks, and innovated the mechanism for the integrated development of education, technology, and talent. This has led to the formation of a strategic scientific and technological force comprising more than ten colleges, one hundred professor teams, and one thousand researchers. It has also nurtured a group of technology-oriented entrepreneurial leaders who are active in the field of new energy, giving rise to a number of leading new energy enterprises affiliated with Central South University, including BYD and CATL, which are acclaimed as the “Whampoa Military Academy” of China’s lithium battery industry.
